Inspired by early medieval battlefield protection, the Skullcap with Faceplate draws from the cervelliere, a simple steel skullcap widely worn by soldiers throughout the 12th–14th centuries. Cervellieres were valued for their lightweight protection and were often worn on their own or beneath larger helmets such as great helms. This design expands upon the classic form by incorporating a protective faceplate and an attached aventail, the curtain of mail that guarded the neck and shoulders from cuts and glancing blows.
Available with the faceplate in silver or metallic gold, this helmet evokes the practical armor worn by foot soldiers and knights alike as armor technology evolved during the High Middle Ages.
